Collective Technologies show new backup and recovery monitoring solution
This company may have a name which brings the 1960s to mind, but it is very current in its orientation. Austin, Texas-based Collective Technologies, a provider of enterprise-class IT infrastructure services, has unveiled its Backup and Recovery HealthCheck service, a solution that ensures the continued functioning of a company’s business critical IT infrastructure in the event of a significant interruption. It is good timing at which to bring out this type of solution. Today’s enterprise backup systems are typically complicated and customized. Configuring these systems correctly to perform backups across diverse network environments and multiple storage tiers can be a hassle. A single misconfigured setting may lead to performance degradation, poor resource utilization, or even non-recoverability of systems and data. Analysts estimate that in the best data centers in the world, about 10 to 20 percent of backups are unrecoverable. That figure reaches 40 to 50 percent for small- to mid-sized businesses. The resulting downtime can cost companies anywhere from $42,000 to $1,000,000 per hour.
The new product performs a gap analysis on a company’s current backup and recovery systems and processes. After evaluation of the backup and recovery system’s implementation and alignment with the company’s needs and service-level agreements, the HealthCheck service provides an assessment of current recoverability readiness along with a detailed report outlining recommendations to increase the efficiency and reliability of the backup systems that protect business critical data.
