Digimarc signs $4.6 million extension contract with Idaho
State will follow twenty others in adopting Digimarc’s digital watermarking technology for its identification cards; REAL ID Act prompts upgrade; company has a twenty-year history with the state
Beaverton, Oregon-based Digimarc, a leader (and we mean that) in developing advanced identity and drivers license systems for the state market, this week signed a $4.6 million, five-year contract extension with Idaho. The company has been working with Idaho for twenty years now, and with the REAL ID requirements looming (the deadline is May 2008), the state is ready for a major upgrade. As part of this effort, Idaho will adopt Digimarc’s patented digital watermarking technology — making it it the twentieth in the United States to do so. The deal also includes the installation of the Digimarc Camera Tower, Digimarc Capture Software and Digimarc Image Server.
Other states relying on Digimarc technology include Alabama, Colorado, Kansas, Massachusetts, Oregon, Iowa, and Texas. The company estimates that one of every two driver’s licenses issued in 2007 will include digital watermarks.
