The Security Industry Association’s annual event, to be held in Washington, D.C. on 19-20 June, offers participants insights about legislation, regulations, procurement policies, and other information which attendees may use not only to address problems they face, but, the SIA notes, also to anticipate, and prepare for, future changes in government policies, regulatory climate, and the private sector trends

The Security Industry Association’s 2012 Government Summit will take place in Washington, D.C. on 19-20 June. This annual meeting is one of the important public policy event in the security industry.

The gathering offers participants insights about legislation, regulations, procurement policies, and other information which attendees may use not only to address problems they face, but, the SIA notes, also to anticipate, and prepare for, future changes in government policies, regulatory climate, and the private sector trends.

The SIA Government Summit kicks off Monday, 18 June with a Congressional Reception from 6:30 to8:30 p.m. in the Rayburn Foyer of the Rayburn House Office Building. Opening remarks on the 19 June will be followed by a rich agenda of panel presentations and  discussions. Among the panel sessions at the summit: “Public Safety, an End-User Perspective,” “The Future of Access and Identity Management,” “Procurement Policy, 10 years after 9-11,” “Securing the Power Grid,” “Contracting and Procurement within the Defense Community,” “Building a Business Around State and Local Government,” “Federal Grants and the Future of Federal Funding,” and “Critical Infrastructure Protection.”

The roster of speakers include Representative Pete King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee; Representative Robert Aderholt, chair of the House Appropriations subcommittee on Homeland Security; former Senator Fred Thompson; Mark Borkowski, Assistant Commissioner OTIA, CBP, DHS; Brad Thor, who will speak on “The Future and Consequences of Electronic Surveillance”; and John Gaydos of ADT/Tyco, who will speak on “Border Protection and the Role of Electronic Surveillance.”

Who should attend the summit? The SIA says: “Whether you are interested in learning more about how to sell to the federal government or you want to know what lawmakers and regulators are doing today that will affect how you do business tomorrow — and what you can do to shape the laws and regulations that they’re considering — the SIA Government Summit is the can’t-miss event of the year.”
