Lumidigm develops whole-hand sensor
Developer of finger-print biometrics will offer a whole-hand sensor; new system designed to read multiple characteristics of the hand through the use of multispectral technology
Albuquerque, New Mexico-based Lumidigm, known as a developer of mostly fingerprint-based biometric technology, has created a system designed to read multiple characteristics of the hand through the use of multispectral technology. The new technology uses a single sensor and is able to image the concave areas of the hand which are not in contact with the device and therefore access characteristics of the entire hand, including five fingerprints and a palm print.
The technology behind the new system was a result of research and development efforts in collaboration with Michigan State University for the U.S. Army need of a multimodal biometrics system. Lumidigm will be demonstrating their new technology at the Biometrics Consortium later this month. A portable version of the technology is in development and Lumidigm is hopeful to have them ready by early 2010.
