SAIC acquires Beck Disaster Recovery
SAIC, a government contractor with revenues last year of $10.1 billion, wants a bigger presence in disaster recovery operations; it acquires a Florida-based disaster recovery specialist, changing its name to SAIC’s Homeland Protection & Preparedness business unit
Defense contractor SAIC said yesterday it has agreed to buy Maitland-based Beck Disaster Recovery Inc. and its parent company R.W. Beck Inc. of Seattle. Financial terms were not disclosed. The companies expect to close the deal in early August. Officials said the deal will expand their customer base and product lines.
Richard Burnett reports that with annual revenues of $10.1 billion, San Diego-based SAIC is a big provider of engineering and information technology services to government defense and intelligence agencies. The company employs almost 500 in Orlando at its simulation training systems operation.
Beck Disaster Recovery provides storm clean-up operations, emergency preparedness consulting, and homeland security planning to government agencies throughout the Southeast. It was the City of Orlando’s clearing contractor after the hurricanes nearly five years ago. It has also been a major player in the Gulf region recovery work after Hurricane Katrina.
It will become part of SAIC’s Homeland Protection & Preparedness business unit.
R.W. Beck Inc. is a disaster-preparedness consulting and engineering company that focuses on environmental services such as water/wastewater, energy/utility, and electrical grid management services.
