ExpressIndia reports that directors of the program say that emerging trends in food production, processing, and distribution require augmented food safety protocols and strategies to ensure safe food supply, especially in emerging economies and world. The twin pronged objective of public health and economic development can be achieved with increased emphasis on food safety. This will require the food companies, government health departments, state and private research institutions in these countries to work together and come up with an effective food safety monitoring and control systems.
For emerging economies such as India, with the vast potential to be major players in the global food industry, food safety is a cause for concern. These nations have to emulate global food standards in order to become competitive. Countries like India have already made significant inroads into establishing food safety control mechanisms. There is, however, much to be done before food safety becomes standard practice. Having gathered experience and expertise in building capacity for the areas of food regulations and food industry infrastructure, the upcoming Global Food Safety Management Program (GFSMP) will be engaged in forming a knowledge pool that will help the food safety authorities and food industry in general to face the various threats and challenges governing food safety. The program will address food safety concerns and provide participants with the ability to build capacity, implement regulations; promote effective agricultural, manufacturing, and hygiene practices; harness greater synergy among various circles and direct optimum investments to ensure best practices in food safety management.
Organizers say that participants at GFSMP will comprise professionals from the health and agriculture departments, research heads, strategic planners, academic professionals, entrepreneurs, service providers, government officials from food safety, food regulatory divisions, food retailers and more. They will be addressed by faculty of industry experts, government policy makers, scientists and academics through a series of interactive lectures, case studies and panel discussions.
