Smiths Detection, RedXDefense partner to create mass transit EDS
In Congress they debate whether or not to mandatory 100 percent inspection of U.S.-bound cargo containers; two explosive detection leaders are joining hands to produce a system which will make sure that 100 percent of subway passengers in the U.S. are screened for explosives
Congress may be debating whether or not to mandate 100 percent inspection of U.S.-bound cargo containers, but Smiths Detection and RedXDefense are joining to offer 100 percent inspection of passengers in mass transit systems. Smiths Detection has signed a letter of intent with Rockville, Maryland-based RedXDefense to develop jointly an advanced explosives screening system for mass transit systems capable of screening 100 percent of passengers. The two companies will partner to adapt advanced RedXDefense detection technology into an explosives screening system which is specifically designed for the demanding conditions of subway stations.
The cooperation between the two companies should not come as a surprise, as RedXDefense’s proprietary technology is complementary to the explosive detection products offered by Smiths Detection. The target market for this new explosives screening system is every turnstile in America’s subways, and there are many turnstiles in America. In New York City alone there are 468 subways stations which accommodate 4.7 million passengers daily. If deployed in New York City, this explosives detection system would screen 1.45 billion trips per year.
