Law enforcement technologyTraceSpan Communications shows new interception device
DOCSIS Phantom intercepts target communications directly from the line and collects a hundred percent of the information in both directions, to and from the ISP or communications provider; the device allows interception of all data, including peer-to-peer communication, even when it does not pass through the ISP server
Israeli company TraceSpan Communications announced the release of its DOCSIS Phantom 5200, a passive Lawful Interception (LI) monitoring solution for cable networks.
DOCSIS Phantom is a passive monitoring solution that records and stores broadband digital information on cable modem lines using DOCSIS technology. It is intended for Law Enforcement Authorities (LEA) looking to capture the data between the service provider’s premises and the target. The company says DOCSIS Phantom allows them to monitor this information without being detected, while providing clear evidence of the tapped information.
DOCSIS Phantom adds the capability to monitor cable networks to TraceSpan’s family of LI products. It follows the company’s monitoring solutions for ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2Plus, VDSL2, and GPON networks, which are being used by a variety of LEA.
DOCSIS Phantom intercepts target communications directly from the line and collects a hundred percent of the information in both directions, to and from the ISP or communications provider. The DOCSIS Phantom system can be used both as a tactical unit and as a cost-effective centralized monitoring system. It can be installed at virtually any location (central office, communication room, basement or street), while the data can be monitored either locally or at a remote location.
“Cable networks impose significant challenges on Law Enforcement Authorities, which need to monitor the information on the line”, said Dr. Hanan Herzberg, TraceSpan’s founder and CEO. “Now, they can do this thanks to DOCSIS Phantom, the first and only passive DOCSIS monitoring solution. Along with the excellent feedbacks on our existing monitoring solutions, we’ve received many requests from our customers to help them address this need, and now we’re proud to provide them the solution.”
DOCSIS Phantom allows interception of all data, including peer-to-peer communication, even when it does not pass through the ISP server. It can be deployed by a single law enforcement agent.
